Harold Jay Murphy

Harold Jay Murphy, age 83, of Liberty Center, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, April 25, 2018 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo.  He was born in Toledo on January 12, 1935 to Carl and Dorothea Murphy.  After graduating from Macomber High School, he entered the U.S Navy and later called up to the U.S Army where he served during the Korean War from 1952 – 1956.  On August 18, 1956 Harold married Patricia Wymer.  Before retiring he worked as a truck driver for Roadway for over 30 years.   Harold was a member of the American Motorcycle Association for many years, along with the NRA and Teamsters.  He enjoyed racing motorcycles and BMX bikes even in his later years.  Harold received certification as High Master Marksman while being a professional shooter; holding the honor of best in Northwest Ohio and South East Michigan for several years.  Along with his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his son, Ralph R. Murphy on January 8, 2018; sisters, Jean Bauman and Hazel Murphy and brother, Cuyler Murphy.  Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, Patricia Murphy; sons, Jay Murphy of Toledo, Karl and Dorcas Murphy of Portland, OR and Cuyler and Barb Murphy of Shelby, Alabama; daughter-in-law, Terrie L. Murphy; twin sister, Helen Johnson, sisters, Margaret Gerke and Marian and George Diener; 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  Friends will be received from 12 Noon – 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St. Hwy. 109 in Delta; where a memorial services for Harold will begin at 1:00 PM on Saturday also at the funeral home.  Pastor Jeff Davis will be officiating.  Interment will follow at Young Cemetery in Liberty Center with Military Rites provided by the Fulton County Honor Guard.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing a show of sympathy are asked to consider contributions to the ASPCA, 424 E. 92nd St, New York, NY 10128-6804 in his name.  Online condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.barnesfuneralchapel.com.
