Rolland Scharer, age 92, of Holland, OH passed away late Monday night, February 18, 2013 at Flower Hospital.  He was one of five children born to the late Ernest Scharer and Laura (Emch) Scharer.  Rolland was born in Toledo on September 4, 1920.  He graduated from DeVilbiss High School in Toledo.  After graduation he entered the Army and served his country honorably during WWII and the Korean War.  Upon his discharge from the military, Rolland worked as a clerk for the US Postal Service and retired in 1983.  He was a member of the American Legion, VFW #2898 and the Old Newsboys.  Rolland will be remembered as a political and economical conversationalist, an avid Michigan Wolverines fan and having a very kind heart.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond and Harold Scharer and sister, Geneva Biggs and Gladys Truxell.  Surviving are many loving nieces and special friends, Gary (Linda) Lancaster of Swanton.  In honoring Rolland’s wishes, there will be no public service and private interment will be at Toledo Memorial Park with Military Rites.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St Hwy 109, Delta, Ohio 43515.  Those wishing a show of sympathy are asked to consider contributions to the Old Newsboys in Rolland’s memory.  Please visit www.barnesfuneralchapel.com to send condolences to Rolland’s family.
