Ethel E. Shipman, 94 of Bourbonnais passed away July 18, 2016 at Miller Healthcare Center. She was born September 13, 1921 in Shelby Co., KY to Glenn and Martha Francis (Reed) Howerton.Ethel proudly served our country in the Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946. She served as a surgical nurse in France and Germany and received the European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars. She was present as a nurse on the battlefield during the Battle of the Bulge.She married Alva Shipman in Toledo, Ohio on July 28, 1962. They were married for 47 years until Alva died on December 31, 2009. Ethel was a Registered Nurse for 32 years and worked at the Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Illinois as a surgical nurse until her retirement in 1968.Ethel had no children of her own, but gained a large family through her husband Alva. She is survived by a step daughter and son-in-law; Linda Shipp (Frank Downs) of Kokomo, IN, and 2 step sons and daughters-in-law; James Shipman (Laurie) of San Jose, CA and Terry Shipman (Carol Ann) of Flossmore, IL. She also had 9 Grandchildren – Joe Berg Jr., Galen Shipp, Daryla Graham, Jeff Habel, Lauren Carpenter, Ryan Shipman, Andrea Shipman, Ian Shipman and Kael Shipman. She is also survived by 6 Great Grandchildren, and 4 Great Great Grandchildren.Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother; James Howerton and 2 stepsons: Daryl Habel and Dennis Shipman.The visitation will be Sunday, July 24, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Schreffler Funeral Home, Bourbonnais Chapel. Graveside services will be held Monday, July 25, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta, Ohio. Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 State Highway 109 in Delta will be assisting with the graveside service.
